Andy Reid Guarantees The Re-signing of 2 Free Agents

“I think both guys are very well-liked here and I’m sure that Brett (Veach) will surely make a strong attempt to keep them here,” Reid said of Brown and Wylie, via Jordan Foote of Arrowhead Report. “We’ll see how that goes.”

Jerick McKinnon, RB

In 2022, Jerick McKinnon became a bigger part of the Chiefs offense. After spending the most of the 2021 season on special teams. McKinnon had 72 runs for 291 yards and one touchdown this season, but he truly made his impact as a receiver, with 56 receptions for 512 yards and nine additional touchdowns. McKinnon became the first running back in NFL history to have five straight receiving touchdowns.

Juan Thornhill, S

Juan Thornhill is the Chiefs’ most notable free agent on the defensive side of the ball this summer. This season, the safety recorded a career-high 71 total tackles, 43 of which were solo and four for a loss. He also had two quarterback hits and one sack during the season, and his three interceptions tied him for the team lead with L’Jarius Sneed.

JuJu Smith-Schuster, WR

Smith-Schuster has 78 catches for 933 yards in 16 games, behind just Travis Kelce in both statistics. Smith-Schuster also scored three touchdowns on the season, his best receiving figures since his Pro Bowl season in 2018.

The issue is that Smith-Schuster will almost certainly be one of the top wide receivers on the market in 2023, which means other clubs may be willing to pay him more than Kansas City can. Nonetheless, after playing a critical part in the team’s Super Bowl run, the Chiefs should consider bringing him back.
