Former Chelsea striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has urged Maurizio Sarri to avoid signing Mateo Kovacic on a permanent deal from Real Madrid. Chelsea hero Jimmy Floyd Hasslebaink has issued warning to manager Maurizio Sarri not to sign Real Madrid star. The former Chelsea attacker urged the Blues board not to permanent the deal of Mateo Kovacic from Real Madrid, The Croatian is on loan at the Stamford Bridge and Chelsea is willingly to seal the move as Real Madrid want to cash in on the player when the summer window transfer is opened. Kovacic has declared his intention to remain at the Stamford Bridge but if Chelsea fail to overturn or delay their two-window transfer ban, he would be unable to stay at the club.
Hasselbaink, meanwhile, feels Kovacic has not been used to his full potential at Chelsea and that his former club should look for a more attacking midfielder.‘I don’t think Chelsea should pursue Kovacic,’ Hasselbaink told Bwin.‘I think he was signed as a way to get better value from the deal that saw Courtois go to Real Madrid, but he hasn’t been used correctly at Chelsea. ‘Kovacic is a defensive midfielder and that is where he performed best at Real Madrid, but Chelsea is already blessed with Jorginho and Kante in that role. ‘Chelsea need a midfielder who has the creativity and can split defences with a final pass, who can set up strikers and achieve assists, but this is not Kovacic’s strengths.’
