Chris Jones Takes Stance on Contract Extension

The Kansas City Chiefs’ four-year, $80 million contract with All-Pro defensive lineman Chris Jones expires in 2023. And, despite having earned a hefty salary, don’t expect Jones to be anxious about his next contract.

Jones has said unequivocally that he intends to conclude his career in Kansas City. With that in mind, the Chiefs’ front management may work out an agreement with Jones this summer that reduces his $28 million cap cost for the 2023 season.

This will allow the AFC West winners to spend more money this offseason. This will not only give Jones another raise, but it will also lengthen Kansas City’s championship window.

“I never really worry about that. I’ve got agents for it,” Jones said during his press conference on February 8, via Jordan Foote of Arrowhead Report. “It’ll eventually work itself out”.

Jones has 44 tackles, 29 quarterback hits, 17 tackles for loss, and 15.5 sacks in 17 games during the regular season, according to Pro Football Reference. Because of his regular-season achievements, he was named to his fourth consecutive Pro Bowl and first-team All-Pro for the first time in his career.

Jones has already proven himself worthy of a large deal this summer. However, another strong performance in Super Bowl LVII against the Philadelphia Eagles might boost Jones’ Hall of Fame credentials and ensure he receives every dime he is due this summer.

The Los Angeles Rams’ Aaron Donald now holds the highest deal among defensive interior lineman in the NFL in terms of average yearly value ($31.6 million). In 2022, he agreed to terms with the Rams on a three-year, $95 million contract.
