Coco Gauff Reflects on Her Clash Against Compatriot Amanda Anisimova

An all-American teenage showdown will transpire at the Emilia-Romagna Open quarterfinals between Coco Gauff and Amanda Anisimova. It would also go down in history as their maiden WTA level meeting.

Previously, Gauff and Anisimova came face-to-face at the 2017 US Open juniors’ final. In that match, the latter, who was a 15-year-old then, won against the then 13-year-old Gauff.

Four years later, the duo will fight again for a berth in the WTA 250 Parma semifinals. Accordingly, the Italian Open 2021 semifinalist opened up on her next opponent in Parma, Anisimova.

Notably, this is her fourth quarterfinal match of the year; she reached the semifinals twice in Adeliade and Rome. In her latest post-match interview, she reflected on meeting with Amanda Anisimova after such a long time.

“We haven’t seen each other in a while on the court,” Gauff said. “I think it will be a great match.” To reach the quarterfinals, the young American defeated Italian Camila Giorgi 6-2, 6-3.
