Five-time finalist Andy Murray will miss the Australian Open after a solution to find a “workable quarantine” following his positive test for coronavirus could not be found.

Andy Murray could well have been making his return this month, but how much do you know about the three-time Grand Slam-winning tennis player, both on and off the court? Here are a few facts;

Tennis player Andy Murray turned professional in 2005. In 2012, he won a gold medal at the London Olympics and claimed his first Grand Slam title with a stellar run at the U.S. Open.

In his younger years, Murray was also a keen footballer and had the opportunity to sign for a Scottish club at the age of 14. At 15, he was asked to train with Rangers Football Club at their School of Excellence, but declined, opting to focus on his tennis career …

After four unsuccessful attempts, he won his first slam at the US Open in 2012, defeating Novak Djokovic in a five-set thriller.

Roy Erskine started his career at Hibernian – the club Andy supports. He did not make a first-team league appearance but moved to Stirling Albion, then Cowdenbeath, playing more than 40 games between 1954 and 1958.

In 2013, Murray became the first British player to win the men’s singles championship at Wimbledon since 1936.

2015 was a significant year for Murray, He married his long-term partner Kim Sears in April 2015 at Dunblane Cathedral. Did you know Kim is the daughter of player-turned-coach Nigel Sears?

2016 was hugely successful for Murray. As well as finishing the year as the world’s top ranked men’s player, he was knighted and won a further two major honours, olympic gold and second Wimbledon title.
