‘I want to get back to playing a sport I love’ – Andy Murray gets Miami wildcard
The three-time Grand Slam champion withdrew from this week’s Dubai Tennis Championships after he and his wife celebrated the birth of their fourth child on Friday.
Following the birth of his fourth child, the former British No 1 will take part in the Miami Open next week after being granted a wildcard.
“It’s a city I love, and I’ve spent a lot of time here over the last 15 years, I feel comfortable,” Murray said of Miami in an interview with People.
“But over the next few months, I want to play matches – especially against the top players – work on my game and climb the rankings. I want to get back playing a sport I love.
“The last few years has been really hard. After the operation, there were no guarantees I would play again, but I’ve been working very hard on my conditioning and over the last few months I’ve felt the best I have for years.
“I’ll need to be mindful of my schedule moving forward but I’m excited to be back competing, with a metal hip.”
If Murray plays, it will be his first appearance at the Miami Open since 2016. It would also be the two-time champion’s first outing since the move from Crandon Park to the Hard Rock Stadium in 2019.
