Jaden Smith Said He Could’ve Turned Out a Lot ‘Weirder’ Than He Is Due to His Upbringing

Those who follow Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith know all about their kids, Jaden and Willow Smith. While Jaden and Willow were once adventurous and creative kids trying to get their work noticed, they’re now powerhouse young adults. But Jaden told interviewers that he’s not nearly as strange as he could be considering how he grew up.

Jaden Smith once said he wanted to be the ‘most craziest person of all time’

Jaden and Willow might be young, but they’re known for their art, music, and fashion. We’ve seen Jaden wear a white Batman costume to Kim Kardashian’s wedding and to his own prom. And he’s used his own hair as a handheld accessory to bring with him on the red carpet and beyond.

Back in 2014, he and Willow had an interview with T Magazine from The New York Times. And the siblings talked about what they’re hoping to bring to the art world going forward. Jaden said, “I’m going to imprint myself on everything in this world.”

Later in the interview, Jaden mentioned he had a goal at the time — and that was to be the craziest person possible. “I have a goal to be just the most craziest person of all time,” he said. “And when I say craziest, I mean, like, I want to do like Olympic-level things. I want to be the most durable person on the planet.”

“I think by the time we’re 30 or 20, we’re going to be climbing as many mountains as we can possibly climb,” Willow added.

Jaden later said he could’ve turned out a lot weirder due to the way he grew up.

Now that Jaden’s 22 and no longer a teen, he’s a bit more aware of the world and himself than he was when interviewing with T Magazine. And he’s done incredible work. Not only has he had successful clothing and shoe design collaborations, but he also founded JUST Water in 2015, which is a company that sells responsibly sourced water in eco-friendly packaging.

There’s no doubt that Jaden’s famous parents have given him a lot of access. But they’ve also given him a ton of freedom. Will and Jada have said in the past that they don’t believe in punishing their children, and they treat Willow and Jaden as equals.

Given this, it seems Jaden knows he could’ve turned out a lot wilder than he did. “I think that I am pretty weird, in all fairness, but I definitely feel like it could’ve been weirder,” Jaden said during an interview on Showtime’s Desus & Mero. “I love my parents. I think they’re amazing. They’ve taught me a lot of things and told me very seriously of ways to hold yourself in public and around other people in general. Life’s crazy. Unexpected things happen.”
