Jamie Murray praises Andy Murray for not having ego

Great Britain’s doubles specialist Jamie Murray has said that his brother Andy Murray is just happy to be back playing.

Andy, a three-time Grand Slam champion, hoped to play the Australian Open but his plans fell apart after he tested positive for the coronavirus in late-January and was unable to fly to Melbourne.

This week, the Australian Open kicked off and the Biella Challenger. Andy, who received a wildcard into the Biella Challenger, defeated Maximilian Marterer in the first round and he plays next against Marco Moroni.

“He is just excited to be able to play because he couldn’t go to Australia,” Jamie said, per Sky Sports.

“He trained so hard for 10-12 weeks in the off-season to be ready to go to Australia and he couldn’t. “For him he just needs to play matches, he needs to play matches. He is excited that in the end he was able to go there and play.”

“He is amazing like that. He doesn’t have an ego to say I am too good to go and play a Challenger tournament. He is happy to be there and compete,” Jamie said. After being forced to miss the Australian Open, Andy publicly admitted he was extremely frustrated for being unable to play at Melbourne Park.
