“No Real Consistency,” Murray slams inconsistencies after latest defeat

Andy Murray has bemoaned the inconsistencies in his game as he admits his ‘level is up and down’ following his latest defeat. In the final pre-cursor before the US Open next week, Murray was beaten 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 in one hour and 50 minutes by American star Frances Tiafoe at the Winston-Salem Open.

Despite the straight sets defeat, Murray admitted there were positives to take after feeling good physically, though made too many unforced errors at crucial moments.

“The positive thing is that I moved well and served well but my level is up and down with no real consistency,” said Murray.

“There are moments in matches where I play well and then I make mistakes or miss returns. I wish I wasn’t doing that.”

Murray, who is currently ranked at 114 due missing large periods of the calendar, believes his level is not currently good enough for the top 50.

“My level is around 50 or 60 in the world. It’s frustrating because if I wasn’t moving great and not feeling good physically then I would be a bit easier on myself.

“But when I’m winning a low percentage of second-serve points, that’s got nothing to do with the physical side of things.”
