Novak Djokovic reveals he almost ruined his chances with wife Jelena after disastrous first date

Tennis ace and world number one reveals that he does make mistakes

He might be close to perfect on the tennis court, but world number one Novak Djokovic has admitted his first date with his wife Jelena didn’t exactly go to plan.

The gorgeous blonde, who married the Serbian superstar in 2013 after eight years together, admitted she wasn’t that impressed with his romance skills when they began dating as teenagers.

In a new video revealing the man behind the racket, produced with Jacob’s Creek ahead of this year’s Australian open, Novak shone a light on their enduring relationship and revealed how he almost blew his chances with the beauty after their disastrous first date in Monte Carlo.

“In my eyes at the time it was a very exclusive place to take her,” he revealed, before adding: “I wanted to impress her so I found this very good restaurant.”

While she wasn’t dazzled by the location of the date – a sports bar – she was even less impressed when he decided to order for her.

Jelena revealed: “Awkward moment, he wants to order for me and it wasn’t what I expected.”

Believing to have hit the jackpot by choosing her favourite – steak – Novak was horrified when it arrived raw.

“I called the waiter over and explained the steak was underdone,” he said, but then was embarrassed to be told: “You ordered the steak tartare it’s always served raw.”

Clearly Jelena wasn’t too put off by the disappointing meal as she gave the star another chance.
“Whenever we see a steak tartare on the menu it reminds us of our first date,” he revealed with a smile at the end of the video.
