Patrick Mahomes Reveals Getting Advice From The G.O.A.T

Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs is set to play in his sixth consecutive AFC Championship Game, but he needed some help from a living icon this week.

Mahomes informed reporters Thursday that he spoke with Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady ahead of the AFC Championship Game between the Chiefs and the Cincinnati Bengals, which will be played at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday.

“I talked to Tom a little bit, I have a good relationship with him now and he gives me a lot of advice,” Mahomes explained. “Why would you not want to learn from the G.O.A.T.? Any time anybody like that wants to give me advice, I’ll take it in. It’s cool to see the guys you’ve watched growing up, your whole life, be able to talk to you.”

Mahomes’ previous performances in similar matches aren’t the only thing on his mind as he prepares for this weekend. He suffered a high ankle sprain in last Saturday’s 27-20 victory against the Jacksonville Jaguars, but he said on Thursday that the injury has improved since he last faced a live defense.

“I thought I had a good day yesterday,” Mahomes remarked about practicing. “Overall probably better than I expected being able to go out there and throw the football and get in the work I needed to get in.”

Mahomes added that he hopes “adrenaline takes over” and helps him to scramble and keep plays alive, like he has done throughout his early and distinguished career.
