The Russell Wilson trade may have changed the Denver Broncos’ ownership situation dramatically. Could a new bidder be emerging? The Russell Wilson trade is going to have a significant impact on a lot of things.

The ripple effect of the Wilson trade is massive and it may extend well beyond just the acquisitions the team makes and the games they play. It might (and frankly should) have a huge impact on the team’s current ownership situation.

Apparently, the following report has been contradicted. The point remains — the trade to acquire Russell Wilson as the team’s QB1 almost certainly makes the Denver Broncos a more attractive asset as a whole.

The NFL has reportedly been hoping for Robert F. Smith to get involved in the purchase of the Broncos and become the first black owner of an NFL team.

Until today, Mr. Smith was apparently not interested, at least as far as any of us knew.

The only thing that has changed since the last update we had regarding Robert F. Smith’s interest in buying the Denver Broncos?

It’s not breaking news that the Wilson trade has made the purchase of the Denver Broncos an even more attractive idea than it was before. Now, whoever wins the bidding war to own the Broncos will have a superstar quarterback and a pretty clear path to immediate success as an NFL owner.

It just so happens that Robert F. Smith is a Denver native who is also a fan of the team.

His candidacy has always made the most sense and now it might make even more sense from his perspective. Purchasing an NFL team is an opportunity that rarely comes along, but even as rare of an opportunity as it is, it’s possible that the Broncos were not as appealing of an investment (the team could sell for almost $5 billion) without a true QB1.

Maybe he was just waiting to hear more regarding what possible bids coming in would be. Maybe he had other arrangements and knew he had time to get a bid in.
