Top-ranked Greek tennis player Stefanos Tsitstipas managed to beat world No. 13 Roberto Bautista Agut at the ATP Cup to help Greeve claimed their first win at the event.

Tsitsipas, who is ranked at No. 6 in the world, edged out Bautista Agut in two tight sets 7-5 7-5 to force a deciding rubber against Spain.

Tsitsipas saved two break points in the third game of the first set, before he claimed the first break of the match in the 12th game.

Tsitsipas then started the second with a 3-0 lead — had three match points in the eighth game on Bautista Agut’s serve — but failed to convert before losing his serve in the following game.

However, Tsitsipas kept his focus and broke Bautista Agut in the 12th game to seal the win. “It was a good match. I think I played very solid throughout the whole match and showed aggression. My forehand was on fire, my serve was working really well for me,” Tsitsipas said in his on-court interview, per the ATP website.

“I executed my game plan very well and had a clear picture of what I was intending to do out on the court.”

In the doubles rubber, Tsitsipas and Markos Kalovelonis didn’t have much job to do as Pablo Carreno Busta and Marcel Granollers retired the match after only one game played.

Meanwhile, in the opening rubber of the tie, Carreno Busta defeated world No. 462 Michail Pervolarakis 6-3 6-4. “I knew that we needed this point. With this victory, we are into the semi-finals, so it was very important to us,” Carreno Busta said in his on-court interview.

“I tried to be focussed on myself, to try to play my [best] game].” “At the beginning of the match, I think it was perfect. I played really good. Then he sta to play better, to play more aggressive and I tried to continue. Finally 6-3, 6-4 I won and I’m happy.”
