“Try and Try Again” – Andy Murray’s 5-Year-Old Daughter, Sophia Inspires Him Ahead of Tokyo Olympics 2020
Sir Andy Murray made a remarkable return to the court at the 2021 Wimbledon Championship. After suffering a career-threatening hip injury, his comeback was termed impossible. However, he stunned fans on his return, recording back-to-back emphatic victories. The crowd was up on their feet, ecstatic to see vintage Andy back in action.
Unfortunately, his dream run soon met its unfortunate reality in the third round of the competition. The 34-year-old failed to maintain his composure against the youngster Denis Shapovalov and was eliminated from the tournament in straight sets.
The Englishman was welcomed back on the court with an uproar from his home crowd. Even as he walked off the grass, the applause did not stop.
Revealing a similar gesture of welcoming him back, Andy shared a hysterical moment with his daughter. Sharing the words of his toddler, he said, “The day after my match my daughter said to me, ‘Oh Daddy you are home because you lost another tennis match.’”
Undoubtedly, Andy was deflated after his dream return ended. However, he credits his daughter’s unintentional pep-talk to come to his relief, following his 2021 Wimbledon Championship exit.
In response to her question, Andy asked her what he should do, post his defeat. To which, she replied, “you try and try again.” Moved by her answer, the former World No. 1 said, “That’s what I want to do. I want to play because I enjoy it. I still feel I can play at a high level.”
Andy Murray has had a hard season, making it through rehab and recovery for a glorious return. Despite the struggles, he wishes to leave his setbacks in the past and focus more on the future now.
“There have been difficult moments with the injuries and stuff but right now this is the healthiest I have been in the last year. The goal is to try to win another medal. I am aware it won’t be easy. But I still believe that it is possible,” he said.
