Packers Reveal Brutal Injury Update On David Bakhtiari

Green Bay Packers tackle David Bakhtiari was sidelined during his team’s Week 2 loss to the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday.

And Packers head coach Matt LaFleur did not exactly have great news concerning his star offensive lineman on Monday. “His knee is injured,” said LaFleur, according to Rob Demovsky of ESPN.

LaFleur said that Bakhtiari had swelling in his knee leading up to Sunday’s game. He added that he does not think Bakhtiari’s issue is turf-related and that even if the Falcons contest were played on grass, he wouldn’t have played. Knee issues are not exactly foreign to Bakhtiari.

The 31-year-old missed all but one game in 2021 due to a torn ACL he suffered at the end of the 2020 campaign. He then proceeded to make just 11 appearances last season.

Bakhtiari, who played his collegiate football at the University of Colorado, was selected by Green Bay in the fourth round of the 2013 NFL Draft.

He started all 16 games during his rookie year, and by his fourth NFL season, Bakhtiari was a Pro Bowler. Overall, Bakhtiari has made four trips to the Pro Bowl, including three straight appearances between 2018 and 2020. He also earned himself a First-Team All-Pro selection in 2020.

Obviously, Bakhtiari’s status for the Packers’ upcoming Sunday matchup against the New Orleans Saints is in question.

In its first season without Aaron Rodgers under center, Green Bay has gotten off to a 1-1 start, topping the Chicago Bears in Week 1 before falling to Atlanta this past weekend.

Fortunately, Jordan Love has looked impressive in his first season as the team’s full-time starting quarterback, throwing for 396 yards and a league-leading six touchdowns over the club’s first two games. Additionally, Love is yet to throw an interception. He also leads the NFL with a 118.7 passer rating.

That being said, life becomes that much harder for Love without David Bakhtiari in the lineup.
