Phillies Reportedly Linked To Intriguing Red Sox Slugger In Possible Trade Deadline Deal

The Boston Red Sox are in one of the most interesting spots in the league as the trade deadline quickly approaches.

Boston has been one of baseball’s hottest teams and has won eight of its last 10 games. The Red Sox is just two games behind the Houston Astros for the final American League Wild Card and realistically could add to the club ahead of the deadline as the club makes a playoff push.

Although things are shaping up for Boston, the club could trade a few veterans, too. The player who seems to be the most likely to be on the move is outfielder Adam Duvall and one team that reportedly could be interested in the slugger is the Philadelphia Phillies, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer’s Scott Lauber.

“One rival talent evaluator guessed Boston chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom will plot a middle course and subtract players who aren’t signed beyond this year while adding help for the stretch run and beyond,” Lauber said. “In that case, Duvall could go, likely for a mid-level prospect.

“Few players better fit the Phillies’ needs than Duvall, who is owed roughly $3 million through the end of the season. The 34-year-old has slugged .487 since 2019, including .522 this year, and would slot neatly into the No. 6-7 spot in the lineup. He also plays a solid left field, where Schwarber has been the worst defender in the majors.”

Duvall has found his name in trade rumors as of late and certainly could be on the move. He was one of the hottest hitters in baseball to begin the season, but an injury forced him to miss time.

Duvall’s time on the injured list opened the door for Jarren Duran to take on a larger role and he consistently has been one of the Red Sox’s best players all season. A trade of Duvall would allow the team to play Duran every day in center field while also giving the club another prospect or two in the process.

Philadelphia could use another slugger and it would make sense for the Red Sox to open up more playing time for Duran. If a deal were to happen it likely would come closer to the August 1 deadline, but stay tuned.
