Raiders DE, Rams RB spar on social media following training camp fight

Maxx Crosby and Cam Akers extended their training camp fight to social media on Thursday night. Akers is listed at 5-foot-11, 212 lbs., while Crosby is 6-foot-5, 255 lbs.

The former was selected by the Los Angeles Rams in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft and is coming off of his best season in his young career.

He posted career highs (and team highs) in rushing attempts (188), rushing yards (786) and rushing touchdowns (seven), while playing in 15 games and making nine starts. The then-Oakland Raiders chose Crosby in the fourth round of the 2019 draft.

And he led the NFL in tackles for loss (career-high 22) last year, while also recording career bests in combined tackles (89), quarterback hits (36) and sacks (12.5) to make his second consecutive Pro Bowl.

The Raiders edge rusher is known to be one of the fieriest defenders in the NFL, earning himself the nickname “Mad Maxx,” so Wednesday’s scuffle isn’t a huge surprise.

With a host of joint practices in session this week, there have been a number of headline-grabbing training camp fights. Among those were a handful involving the New York Jets and Tampa Bay Buccaneers alone, with one of the melees resulting in Gang Green cornerbacks coach Tony Oden being sent to the hospital after being hit by a “friendly fire.”

Las Vegas and Los Angeles will play in Week 2 of the preseason at 9 p.m. ET on Saturday, so it’ll be a quick turnaround to see if there’s any lingering bad blood on the gridiron.
