Red Sox Veteran Set To Return Soon After Many Thought His Season Was Over

The Boston Red Sox are on pace to receive another reinforcement amid an injury-riddled season but most fans will not be thrilled to see his return.

After earlier reports claimed his season was over, it appears that right-hander Corey Kluber will return to the big-league roster before season’s end.

“In an otherwise quiet Tropicana Field Tuesday afternoon, Corey Kluber tossed two innings of live batting practice against his teammates, one more step on his comeback journey from shoulder inflammation which first sidelined him at the end of June,” MassLive’s Sean McAdam wrote Tuesday.

The plan is for Kluber to make a rehab start on Friday and rejoin the club as a reliever before the regular season concludes.

Kluber is 3-6 with a 7.04 ERA, 42-to-24 strikeout-to-walk ratio, .297 batting average against and 1.64 WHIP in 55 innings this season. He was arguably the worst pitcher in Major League Baseball prior to his stint on the injured list.

The 37-year-old has not committed to a plan for 2024 but would be wise to retire after appearing to lose more than just a step this season.

It’s possible that an injury impeded his success this year but his velocity has reached a point where he cannot compete at the highest level. It’s been a fall from grace by the two-time American League Cy Young winner.
