Ex-Packers TE Could Return to Replace Injured Tyler Davis

On Tuesday, a former Green Bay Packers tight end is available for claim off waivers. The news comes as the Packers ponder adding a tight end to their roster. Tyler Davis tore his ACL in the Packers’ win over the Cincinnati Bengals on Friday night.

Prior to the first preseason game, Davis was classified as the Packers’ TE2. For a while, the Packers were also without offensive lineman Luke Tenuta. On Tuesday, the Packers worked out many guys, including a wide receiver and several offensive linemen.

There have been no reports of a tight end search. According to Aaron Wilson of KPRC, the Pittsburgh Steelers waived former Packers tight end John Lovett on Tuesday. According to WSH Media, Lovett appeared in multiple games with the Packers before suffering an ACL injury. This year, many NFL clubs have expressed interest in Lovett.

Lovett was claimed off waivers by the Packers in July of 2020. He played in eight games for the Packers that season before going on injured reserve with a ruptured ACL. The next spring, Lovett was waived. During the 2022 season, he spent time with the Dolphins.

Before signing with the Steelers, Lovett piqued the curiosity of other NFL teams. The New York Jets gave him a tryout around the start of training camp.
