Packers Linked To Intriguing Running Back Trade

The Green Bay Packers are in need of some help in their running game, and Shawn Lealos of GiveMeSport.com thinks that Denver Broncos running back Javonte Williams could be the answer.

The Packers rank just 24th in the NFL in rushing offense, as Aaron Jones has been in and out of the lineup due to a hamstring injury and A.J. Dillon has been very disappointing.

Green Bay could certainly stand to improve its ground attack in order to make life easier for young quarterback Jordan Love, who has struggled the past three games. Williams could ultimately end up being traded before the Oct. 31 NFL trade deadline, as the Broncos are just 2-5 and appear to be headed nowhere fast.

Williams has another year remaining on his deal after this season, but Denver may just want to cash in on him now to pick up another asset to help facilitate what seems to be an imminent rebuild this offseason.

The 23-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of North Carolina, was selected by the Broncos in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft.

He enjoyed an impressive rookie campaign, racking up 903 yards and four touchdowns while averaging 4.4 yards per carry. In addition, he hauled in 43 receptions for 316 yards and three scores. Unfortunately, Williams ended up suffering a devastating knee injuries four games into his second season, which obviously cut his development.

He has played in six games this season, totaling 272 yards on the ground while logging 4.3 yards per tote. He has also logged 14 catches for 65 yards.

Ironically enough, Williams had his best game of 2023 to date during Denver’s Week 7 win over the Packers, carrying the ball 15 times for 82 yards while snaring three balls for 14 yards.

Javonte Williams may not be a star, but he could certainly be of some assistance to Green Bay’s ailing rushing attack. The Packers are 2-4 on the season and will take on the Minnesota Vikings next weekend.
