Joe Burrow issues message to Bengals locker room after 1-3 start

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow isn’t one to make big speeches often.

So when he does, it usually comes at an important moment.

With his Bengals sitting in a 1-3 hole and questions swirling about the entire season, Burrow picked his spot this week and had a particular theme in mind — time to move past the struggles.

“You’ve always got something to say. Especially after a situation like that,” Burrow said, according to Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com. “Obviously, I’ll keep that between us in that locker room, but we put it to bed.”

That sort of message is important in NFL locker rooms (just look at an injured Aaron Rodgers trying to keep Jets players from pointing fingers at each other).

The message from Burrow appears to have landed well, with Orlando Brown Jr. speaking on it publicly: “It was a great message for moving forward and what we need to do. Our execution and standard. He’s a vocal leader in the moment, but he’s not a rah-rah guy. He’s genuine, he’s authentic. When someone needed to speak, he was the one who spoke up and it was awesome.”

Ditto for long snapper Cal Adomitis: “When words need to be said, he definitely says them. It sunk in with everybody and we’re ready to take it and run with it.”

Based on what the Bengals have put on film so far, the team still has a lot to overcome on both sides of the ball. But from the sounds of it, Burrow has handled in-house stuff that can sometimes sink a team when the going gets rough this early.
