Jordan Love Shares Text From Aaron Rodgers Before Training Camp

Jordan Love faces a difficult assignment as the Packers’ starting quarterback in his debut season. The Packers’ brass has expressed confidence in Love’s skill set, and he is looking forward to the chance to prove himself.

He is also relieved to hear that Rodgers is still on his side. Love informed reporters that his former buddy, who is now with the Jets, texted him before of his first training camp practice as the Packers’ starting quarterback.

“Aaron reached out to me last night and that’s exactly what he said,” Love said Wednesday, via Matt Schneidman of The Athletic. “He said, ‘Just be yourself, have fun, enjoy it.’ It’s obviously my time now, and he just said, you know, ‘Be yourself.’ I mean, that’s all you can do.”

Love said that Rodgers’ words meant a lot to him. He also stated that he has heard a similar sentiment from his teammates and staff in the run-up to the 2023 season.

“That’s kind of been the message from everybody,” Love said. “Be yourself. Don’t try to be anybody else. Don’t try to be Aaron. Things like that. Just be yourself and that’s kinda what I’m trying to do.”

Love will need time to grow on the field, so the best-case scenario may be that he replicates Rodgers’ first season as the Packers’ starting quarterback in 2008. Green Bay finished 6-10 that season, with Rodgers completing 63.6 percent of his throws for 4,038 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions.
