NFL Analyst Suggests Jordan Love Should Quit Playing Football

Last Friday night, the Green Bay Packers beat the Cincinnati Bengals 36-19 in the first preseason game of the season. The game was keenly anticipated since it was Jordan Love’s debut as Green Bay’s starting quarterback. Love performed admirably, completing seven of 10 passes for 46 yards and one touchdown.

Love’s performance earned him a PFF Grade of 75.6 and praise from teammates, coaches, and pundits despite the fact that he only played in two series. That is, with the exception of one analyst. Colin Cowherd spent a few minutes on his show today screaming about how lackluster Love was, even suggesting that he should probably stop playing football entirely.

During his show, Cowherd said of Love:

“Less than seven yard per completion. Less than five yard per attempt. What am I supposed to make of it? Well, what I make of it is that the biggest throw of the game, clean pocket, wide open tight end, and he missed it badly.

“Bro, it’s year four in the NFL. That’s a layup. That’s bad. I know you say, ‘But what about this and what about that?’ They are handholding him! That is a third down, clean pocket, bad miss for a college quarterback.

“He is what I was told throughout the offseason that I thought he would be: he’s a game manager. There’s no special there. You can say what you want about Justin Fields at 5-20, but see wow all the time. I saw wow this weekend with Anthony Richardson. I don’t expect Anthony Richardson to be refined and polished”.

“But if you’re still wearing floaties year four in the pool, you’re not Michael Phelps. In fact, maybe swimming’s not for you.” As previously said, many football analysts were impressed by Love and his performance. Cowherd’s position is an attempt to stand out.

The basic reality is that there will be missed passes, such as the one Love missed when passing to tight end Luke Musgrave. Even Aaron Rodgers occasionally misses those tosses. It occurs. It is absolutely not a cause to discourage the young man from playing football.

Regardless of how great Love does, there will always be Colin Cowherds in the world who would twist everything to make him appear terrible.
