Packers’ 30-Year Old Veteran Quarterback Backup to Jordan Love

The Green Bay Packers’ starting quarterback is set. Jordan Love is taking over for future Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers. The backup quarterback position, on the other hand, leaves a lot to be desired. Packers currently features backup quarterbacks Danny Etling and Sean Clifford.

Since being selected, Etling has been on the rosters or practice squads of seven different NFL clubs. In other words, he does not appear to be a reliable backup option in the event that Love is injured.

Clifford was a fifth-round choice, but many NFL Draft analysts did not believe he was worth a selection at all. He also does not appear to be a good backup choice. Alex Ballentine of Bleacher Report has now revealed a possible solutions as backup to Jordan Love.

“There are two notable veteran quarterbacks with starting experience still on the market in Teddy Bridgewater and Carson Wentz. The former has already played the role of veteran backing up a young up-and-coming quarterback, while the latter has been traded or released by his previous employers when he didn’t live up to the role of starter.

“Bridgewater was a fine secondary option behind Tua Tagovailoa and kept the Miami Dolphins offense afloat in his absence last season. The 30-year-old could do the same thing for the Packers and ease the burden on Love to remain healthy for the team to be competitive.”

Bridgewater started two games when Tagovailoa went down with concussion issues. Miami went 0-2 in those games, but Bridgewater performed admirably. He had a passing rating of 85.6 and threw four touchdowns and four interceptions.

Bridgewater had to make five starts as a backup for New Orleans in 2019. The Saints won all five games, as he threw nine touchdowns and two interceptions with a passer rating of 99.1.
