Red Sox Rising Star Reportedly Shut Down For Season Due To Unfortunate Injury

The Boston Red Sox reportedly will be without the services of starting first baseman Triston Casas for the rest of the season.

Casas has been a revelation for the Red Sox this season at first base. He struggled to begin the season but turned things around in a massive way and certainly has a bright future.

The young slugger even could take home the American League Rookie of the Year Award this season. Casas has been impressive but reportedly will be shut down for the rest of the season due to a right shoulder injury, according to the Boston Globe’s Alex Speier.

“Triston Casas likely won’t play again this year,” Speier said. “He’s still being checked by doctors, but regardless of specifics of diagnosis regarding his shoulder, Sox see no need to rush him back.”

At this point, it isn’t surprising that Casas won’t return to the field this season. Boston more likely than not won’t be in the playoffs this season and has just 11 games left. There isn’t much time for the young slugger to get back on the field. Casas last played for Boston on September 14th against the New York Yankees.

Overall, it was a very successful rookie season for the 23-year-old. He struggled out the gate but showed great improvement and finished the season with an impressive .263/.367/.490 slash line to go along with 24 home runs and 65 RBIs.

There’s still room for growth, but Casas has proven to be the first baseman of the future for the Red Sox. The next step is possibly agreeing to a contract extension this upcoming offseason.
