Ja'Marr Chase Wishes Bengals Would Have Taken His Advice On Joe Burrow's Injury

Back in early August, Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase told Joe Burrow to rest until he’s 100%. Well over a month later, Burrow is still not fully recovered from his calf strain, and the Bengals are 0-2.

Chase remembers what he said, and he stands by it following Burrow aggravating his calf after a 27-24 loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

“I wish we would’ve done that from the jump,” Chase told reporters Monday afternoon.

Whether or not Chase knew Burrow would need all this time to fully recover, his intent was to ensure his quarterback would not feel rushed to get back to 100%, even if it meant missing a few games.

“I told him that with all honesty I don’t want him there. Same thing with me last year,” Chase said on NFL Network after practice on August 4. “I sat out an extra game just to let my hip all the way heal up, and you don’t want to cause no other problems later on in the season, and I told him as long as you’re there after Week 5 and on, we’re good brother.”

The Bengals opted to play Burrow to start the season, and it’s been clear he isn’t all the way back. What’s more dejecting is despite this, he started looking like his normal self in the second half against Baltimore. He completed 19 of 30 passes for 187 yards, two touchdowns, and an uncharacteristic interception in the red zone.

And his calf still ended up being a problem at the end.

Zac Taylor told reporters Monday that it’s “hard to say” whether or not Burrow will play next Monday night against the Los Angeles Rams. Burrow should considered day-to-day at this point, with the first practice of the week taking place Thursday.

We’ll start knowing then if Chase truly was right all along.
