Rising Red Sox Slugger Dealing With Unfortunate Injury; Should Be Back Soon

The Boston Red Sox had to make a late decision Saturday.

Rookie first baseman Triston Casas was set to start against the New York Yankees but was scratched from the lineup due to a tooth infection, but shouldn’t miss much time, according to MassLive.com’s Chris Cotillo.

“Red Sox first baseman Triston Casas was scratched from Saturday’s lineup due to a tooth infection, manager Alex Cora said,” Cotillo said. “Casas is considered day-to-day.

He had the tooth drained at a local hospital Saturday afternoon and is expected to be out again Sunday. ‘He got drained. He had to go to the hospital,’ Cora said. ‘Everything is OK. Hopefully, he’ll be available Monday.’

Casas has been one of the brightest spots in the Boston lineup over the last few months so if the slugger were to miss any more time than just the weekend, it could cause some serious problems for Boston. The 23-year-old is slashing .253/.353/.483 to go along with 20 home runs and 48 RBIs in 109 games.

At this point, it seems as though Casas will be back in the Boston lineup very shortly. If Casas ends up needing to miss more time than just the weekend, slugger Bobby Dalbec could make sense for a call-up to the big-league club.

Dalbec has clubbed 30 home runs so far this season for the Triple-A Worcester Red Sox and could provide more first base depth. Boston currently has Justin Turner with the big-league club, but the veteran has been dealing with a nagging injury.

Hopefully, he is okay and is back in the Red Sox lineup Monday so the club doesn’t have to plan any other option.
