BREAKING: Packers Sign Wide Receiver Before Training Camp

In a news conference earlier on Tuesday, Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur revealed that today was the first day of conditioning drills for the squad ahead of Wednesday’s first day of training camp workouts. The Packers did not stop there, as they brought in five guys for workouts.

Cody Chrest, Tyshaun James, Braydon Johnson, Samson Nacua, and Jacob Eason were among the players that visited Green Bay, according to NFL writer Aaron Wilson. Except for Eason, the quarterback, all are receivers. On the eve of the first training camp practice of 2023, the Green Bay Packers have settled on a wide receiver to sign.

General manager Brian Gutekunst said on Tuesday that the team will not seek experienced assistance at the position. However, the organization is bringing in another young pass catcher for camp. The Packers have signed Cody Chrest following a tryout, according to Aaron Wilson of KPRC:

Chrest attended Harvard and Sam Houston State in college. This year, he was signed as an UDFA by the Indianapolis Colts. He also worked out with the Steelers this spring. Chrest was named second-team ALL-WAC for the 2022 season at Sam Houston State. Last season, he caught 36 catches for 548 yards and two scores.

Chrest’s chances of making the Packers’ 53-man roster or practice squad following camp are slim. But, with the majority of Chrest’s rivals being rookies, he has an opportunity to shine this summer.
