Harrison Butker Breaks Silence on Kicking Struggles
The Kansas City Chiefs Harrison Butker talked to the media on Tuesday, December 20, two days after missing multiple important kicks in Kansas City’s 30-24 overtime victory over the Houston Texans.
Butker stated that he does not want to modify his routine much. “You can get yourself where you’re just trying to change way too much and (then) you’re hurting yourself,” he said.
He said he’s working to be more consistent than he’s been this season but added he didn’t want to overdo any changes he might make.

Butker was then questioned about his holds by punter Tommy Townsend, who, according to former Chiefs punter Dustin Colquitt, is the major reason for Butker’s inaccuracy.
“It doesn’t seem like anything out of the ordinary. You look across the league and you see guys hitting balls where the laces are facing straight at them and they’re still hitting it through,” Butker replied.

Butker accepted full responsibility for his missed kicks. “No matter what the ball’s doing, I’ve got to get it through the uprights,”
Butker missed two attempts in the 30-24 overtime victory over Houston. The first was a failed point-after try shortly before halftime, which would have knotted the score at 14 each.

The next miss came from 51 yards out at the conclusion of regulation. The Chiefs would have won the game in regulation if the effort had been made. Butker blew it wide right.
