Insider Reveals Chris Jones’ Salary Demands For New Contract

Chris Jones has put the Kansas City Chiefs in a difficult situation. He is by easily their most skilled and influential defensive player, and he understands that he has complete control over his new deal.

There have been several speculations regarding Jones potentially holding out if he does not get a new contract, with HC Andy Reid admitting that he has no idea what would happen.

With that in mind, Nate Taylor of The Athletic reports that Jones is apparently aiming for a $30 million-per-year contract (via Dov Kleiman) To be honest, the Chiefs would be wise to lock him up at all costs, given that they’ve spent the majority of their money on offensive-minded players and have more than enough money to distribute about all other positions.

With the season right around the corner, they won’t be able to locate another player of Jones’ level, and even if they do, they’ll have to pay a lot of money to get him on the field.

Jones is one of the finest players at his position, and holding out has become a common negotiating technique between top players and their clubs. The Chiefs are expected to be the team to beat in the league again next season, and they will remain so as long as they are this offensive powerhouse.

Nonetheless, even the Chiefs require a strong defense to compete in this league, and they may be forced to match Jones’ lofty criteria.
