Dan Campbell Sends A Message To Chiefs About Chris Jones Holdout

The Kansas City Chiefs and Detroit Lions will be the two teams that kick off the 2023 NFL season. It will be the home opener for the Chiefs, who will be celebrating the Super Bowl they won last season.

As for the Lions, they are looking to put the league on notice with a strong effort against the best team in the sport. One player whose status for that game is still up in the air is Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones.

He is one of the best defensive players in football and wants to be paid as such. Jones is currently holding out from Chiefs training camp and it remains to be seen when he will return. Lions head coach Dan Campbell hopes Jones does not return until after the first week.

According to Will Burchfield, Campbell hopes Jones extends his holdout. For the Lions, that would be great, but it is extremely unlikely.

Usually, as we get close to the beginning of the regular season teams and players can agree on a deal. Especially for a player as important as Jones.

He finished third in Defensive Player of the Year voting after tying a career-high in sacks with 15.5. It will be interesting to see what type of deal Jones can end up receiving. He will most likely want to be paid like one of the top defensive tackles in the NFL.

There is an adage that “deadlines make deals.” As we inch closer to the regular season, a deal between the Chiefs and Jones is bound to happen.
