Insider Reveals When Chiefs And Chris Jones Will End Contract Dispute

Despite the fact that great pass rusher Chris Jones is a Kansas City Chiefs training camp holdout, the club recognizes his importance to the team and believes they will be able to reach an agreement on a contract extension shortly.

Chris Jones has played a key role in the Chiefs’ transformation into a dynasty and a postseason powerhouse, as the club has reached three Super Bowls and won two in the previous four years. Because of his exceptional level of performance, the 29-year-old now expects to be compensated as one of the greatest in his position.

Kansas City and Jones’ representatives were unable to reach an agreement on a new long-term deal over the offseason, and the second-round selection in 2016 intensified matters by electing to sit out of can’t and incurring a daily punishment of $50,000. Despite what appears to be a schism between the two parties, it appears like the Chiefs are confident they can reach an agreement.

During a Wednesday interview on “The Pat MacAfee Show,” ESPN NFL insider Dianna Russini dropped the newest dirt on the issue, explaining why a large contract that would make Jones one of the highest-paid D-linemen in the league might be in the works before the end of the month.

“I had a conversation with someone this morning that’s involved in the negotiations. They still feel really optimistic [that] they’re going to get it done. The number Chris Jones wants, it’s a big number. But the Chiefs, every conversation I’ve had with them over the last few months has been nothing but understanding his value, understanding his role on this team”.

‘We want to get this done. We feel good we’re going to get this done. We’re optimistic.’ That’s one of those [situations] where I think it feels a little icky right now, but I think it’s going to work out by the time we get to at least to the third or fourth week of camp here.”
