Ja’Marr Chase Sends Warning to Joe Burrow

The Cleveland Browns are set to face off against the Cincinnati Bengals to open up the season, and if it was up to Ja’Marr Chase, quarterback Joe Burrow will not be on the field.

Burrow is already on the sidelines after suffering what the team is calling a calf strain after rolling to his right in practice and falling to the ground without contact. Medical staff quickly carted Burrow off the field.

Bengals coach Zac Taylor stressed that Burrow will miss “several weeks.” It’s currently unclear if that means Burrow will be a scratch Week 1 when the Bengals head to Cleveland to face their AFC North rivals, the Browns.

But if it’s up to star Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase, Burrow won’t be on the field to start the regular season.

“I told him, in all honesty, I don’t want him there,” Chase said told Andrew Siciliano of NFL Network. “I sat out an extra game just to let my hip heal all the way up. You don’t want to cause problems later in the season. As long as you’re there after Week 5 and on, we’re good, brother.”

Chase admitted he wished he had healing hands for his star quarterback.

“I wish I did,” Chase said. “I’m looking at him every day, watching him every day, seeing his rehab, so you know he looks good right now, like I said when it first happened, I’ve seen his demeanor and the way that he felt I could already tell what happened to him. So he’s in good hands, working well, getting his sleep in.”

The Bengals open the season against the Browns, the Baltimore Ravens, the Los Angeles Rams, the Tennessee Titans and the Arizona Cardinals.
