Joe Burrow can accomplish something in 2023 that Patrick Mahomes already failed to accomplish

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has accomplished nearly everything a quarterback at his age can possibly accomplish.

Mahomes essentially already has a Hall of Fame resumé — Super Bowl MVPs, league MVPs, five-time Pro-Bowler, most total yards in a season by a quarterback.

There’s one thing that Mahomes didn’t accomplish early in his career, however, that Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow has a chance to accomplish in 2023.

According to NFL Communications, in 2023 Burrow can join Hall of Fame quarterback Dan Marino as the only players in NFL history to pass for at least 4,000 yards and 30 touchdowns in three of their first four NFL seasons.

Burrow has averaged 4,543 passing yards and 34.5 touchdowns over his last two seasons. He’s also only played in 16 games in each of the last two seasons (the NFL moved to a 17-game regular season schedule beginning in 2021).

Chiefs fans will likely point to the fact that Mahomes only played in one game as a rookie as the reason why the reigning Super Bowl MVP didn’t accomplish this feat.

Bengals fans, however, can point to Burrow playing in only 10 game as a rookie (due to the torn ACL he suffered) as a counter to that argument.

The real reason Mahomes wasn’t able to accomplish this feat is because he only totaled 26 passing touchdowns in 2019.

Now, to be fair to Mahomes, he missed two games in 2019 with a dislocated knee cap, which obviously hindered his ability to throw 30 touchdown passes. But the best ability is availability and avoiding injuries — even freak injuries — is key for quarterbacks.

Either way, Burrow has a chance to accomplish something that Mahomes didn’t. And since the list of things that Mahomes hasn’t accomplished is short, this is certainly something that Bengals fans should be rooting for in 2023.
