Roger Federer is Set To Make His Long-Awaited Comeback
In the last few hours the rumor had circulated several times, also because after giving up the Australian trip he himself had indicated the possible stages of returning to the world circuit. But now official status has also arrived.
Roger Federer will return to the field on March 8 at the ATP 250 tournament in Doha and all the millions of his fans are already in a state of excitement.
The Swiss champion has not played an official match since the Australian Open semi-final lost to Novak Djokovic on January 30, 2020.
Later, after his last “public outing” in the spectacular exhibition organized in South Africa with his great friend Rafael Nadal, the two operations on his right knee forced him to a long stop, which prevented him from taking the field in the final part of last year when tennis resumed its activity after the lockdown due to Covid-19.
Last December, then, realizing that his physical condition was not what he would have wanted, Federer communicated the bitter decision to forfeit the Australian Open, but now he has finally found the right date to return to competitions.
Obviously, it is useless to underline that during these hours the attention towards the Doha tournament is already growing dramatically, also because Federer has not played it since the now distant 2012. The thing that matters, however, is that the Swiss champion resumes doing what for twenty years it has enthralled tennis fans all over the world.
Keeping in mind that his big goals for 2021 are Wimbledon, the Olympics and the US Open, on the agenda between the end of June and mid-September. For this reason, in order to improve and refine his physical condition, Federer also plans to play some spring tournaments on clay.
And of course the rumor about his possible presence at the Internationals of Italy is already beginning.
Roger Federer is set to make his long-awaited comeback
“I like to play tennis for life. In the last few months I have given a lot in rehab, in the conditioning area.
I had to go to the bottom in the last few months, but I always enjoyed it and had a great team around me. Now is the time to try again” – Roger Federer stated. “I want to celebrate great victories again. And for that I am ready to go the long, hard road.”
He also admitted he followed the sport more than he thought he would while away from the court. “I actually thought that I would not follow the sport very much and would be more busy with my children and my rehab. I was surprised that I kept checking results and watching matches. And normally I don’t do that at all if I don’t take part in a tournament.”
