Roger Federer Inspires Switzerland to Olympic Gold

Belinda Bencic won the Gold medal in the singles category at the Tokyo Olympics 2020. The Roger Federer fan battled past the in-form Marketa Vondrousova and defeated her in three sets to win the Olympic Gold. The final scoreline of the match was 7-5, 2-6, 6-3.

In the post-match interview, Belinda Bencic revealed that she got a special text message from Roger Federer in the morning. He wished her all the very best for her finals and told her that today is her lucky day to make her dreams come true. Bencic also mentioned that she became very happy after reading his message.

“Roger wrote me a message that morning that today is a good day to make my dreams come true. That made me very happy,” said Bencic in the interview, Besides being compatriots, Roger and Belinda are great friends off the court. The two even won the 2019 Hopman Cup for their nation.

Roger Federer and Martina Hingis are two role models of Bencic. As a result, she highlighted that she won the medal for both of them. However, she also mentioned that the two legends have achieved so much in their careers that she won’t be reaching anywhere near them.

“I did it for Martina and Roger too, they achieved so much and I will never be able to achieve that. That’s why this victory is also for her, for Martina and Roger,” added the Tokyo Olympics Gold-medalist.

Fans became quite disappointed when the Swiss Maestro withdrew from the Tokyo Olympics 2020. At 39, this would have been his last Olympics as it is highly unlikely that he’ll play at the Paris Olympics 2024. However, Bencic made sure that Switzerland doesn’t miss him as she was able to grab a Gold at the Olympics this year.
